Here I will introduce the advantage of knife block.
It fits all my knives. I have 6 steak knives, a paring knife, a good chef's knife, and a few others. They all fit, unlike a traditional block that only allows the knives that will fit in those specially sized slots.
It's easy to keep clean. You'll need to wash the rods every so often, but they come out in one solid unit attached at the bottom so there's no mess. The fact the rods are dishwasher safe is HUGE in my book.
It saves counter space by corralling all those knives into one compact spot. No storing them in drawers the kids can reach, or on a magnet strip– which is such a great concept, but I don't have the wall space for it.
